Policy
Terms & Conditions
The rules for using this website, and the terms that apply if you buy something through it. Written in plain language. If something here is unclear, email hello@technical-humanist.com and I will explain it.
Effective date: September 30, 2026.
Who you are agreeing with
This website, technical-humanist.com, and everything on it is owned and operated by Technical Humanist LLC, a Georgia limited liability company. Throughout this page, "I", "me", and "my" mean Technical Humanist LLC and Allison Marx. "You" means whoever is reading, using, or buying from this site.
By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. You also need to be at least 18 years old to use this site or to buy anything through it.
Two related pages go with this one: Privacy covers what I collect and why, and the Disclaimer covers what my work is and is not. Reading all three gives you the whole picture.
Using the site
While using this site, please do not:
- Harass or abuse anyone through the site or the forms on it.
- Send obscene, defamatory, or abusive content, or content that infringes anyone else’s intellectual property.
- Use the site for anything that breaks the law, here or where you are.
- Send spam or unsolicited commercial messages through the contact form.
- Copy, republish, or redistribute my work in a way that infringes my rights — see below for what you may do.
- Attempt to break, overload, probe, or gain unauthorised access to the site or the services behind it.
This is information, not professional advice
I am an AI strategy and implementation consultant. I am not an attorney, a CPA or accountant, a licensed financial or investment advisor, a licensed HR or employment professional, privacy counsel or a Data Protection Officer, or a certified security auditor or assessor.
Everything published on this site is for information and education. It is not legal, accounting, tax, financial, employment, or security advice, and it is not a substitute for a professional who knows your circumstances. Consult one where the question calls for it.
My assessments are not audits. The AI Foundation Diagnostic, the AI Readiness Snapshot, the AI Search Visibility Assessment, and every other engagement or tool offered here are advisory work. None of them is an audit, certification, attestation, accreditation, or conformity assessment. None of them certifies compliance with ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the EU AI Act, SOC 2, or any other standard, framework, or regulation, and none of them should be presented to a regulator, customer, insurer, or board as though it were.
The Disclaimer goes into this in more detail.
What I own, and what you may do with it
This site and its content — writing, Field Notes, Field Guides, worksheets, graphics, designs, photographs, video, and the structure of the site itself — belong to Technical Humanist LLC and are protected by United States copyright and trademark law.
You may read it, print it, use it inside your own organisation, share links to it, and quote it with credit and a link back. The Field Guides are free to download and free to share; that is what they are for.
Please ask first before republishing a whole piece, using any of it in something you sell or in paid training, or reproducing it under someone else’s name or brand. Email me and the answer is usually yes.
Please do not present my work as your own, imply that I endorse you or am affiliated with you when I am not, or use my name, business name, or likeness in your marketing without asking.
If you send me something — a message through the contact form, a reply to an email, a comment — you confirm it is yours to send, and you allow me to use it to run my business and respond to you. I will not publish your words, your name, or your organisation’s name in marketing without asking you first.
Links to other sites
This site links to other websites, and some pages embed third-party services. I do not control those sites and services, I am not responsible for their content or how they handle your information, and a link is not an endorsement. Their terms and privacy notices are theirs, and worth reading before you hand them anything.
No promises about results
Client quotes and examples on this site describe what happened for those clients. They are not a promise that you will get the same outcome, or a similar one. Every organisation, team, and starting point is different.
Where this site mentions savings, efficiency, time recovered, revenue, or any other result, treat it as an illustration and not a guarantee. What you get out of this work depends on your own situation, your decisions, and the effort you put in. I do not guarantee the success or failure of your project, your business, or your AI programme.
The site is offered as it is
I work to keep this site accurate and current, but I cannot guarantee it is free of errors, complete, or up to date — this field changes very fast, and some of what is written here will age badly. The site and its content are offered "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows.
Do your own diligence before acting on anything you read here, particularly where the decision is expensive or hard to reverse.
Fees and payment
Fees are set for each engagement in a written proposal. Nothing is sold or charged through this website directly. Engagements are agreed in writing first, and then invoiced.
You can pay by invoice — bank transfer or cheque — at the agreed price, or by card through Stripe.
Paying by card may carry a surcharge. If you choose to pay by credit card, a surcharge is added where the law permits it, to cover the cost of accepting that payment. The exact amount is shown to you before you pay and appears on your receipt, and it never exceeds what the card costs me to accept. There is no surcharge on debit cards, bank transfer, or cheque. Choosing invoice payment avoids it entirely.
Invoices are due on the terms stated on the invoice. If a payment fails or is not made, I may pause or stop work until it is resolved. You remain responsible for fees for work already performed.
Payments are processed by Stripe, which has its own terms and privacy notice and handles your card details directly — I never see or store your full card number.
Refunds
Working Session. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before the session and you get a full refund, no questions asked. Inside 48 hours the fee is not refundable, because the time is reserved for you and cannot be filled at short notice. If something genuinely unavoidable comes up, tell me and I will do what I reasonably can.
Everything else. If an engagement ends early, for any reason and from either side, the fee is pro-rated: you are charged for the work performed and delivered up to that point, and any prepayment beyond that is returned to you within 30 days.
A signed statement of work may set out different or more generous terms for that engagement. Where it does, the signed agreement is what applies.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of your use of this site or of anything you bought from me.
Where I am found liable, my total liability is limited to the amount you actually paid me for the specific service or product the claim relates to — or, if you have not paid me anything, to USD $100.
This limit does not apply to anything the law does not permit me to limit, including gross negligence, willful misconduct, and fraud.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Technical Humanist LLC and Allison Marx against claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising out of your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site or its content, or your violation of the law or of someone else’s rights. This does not cover claims arising from my own gross negligence or willful misconduct.
If we end up in a dispute
Talk to me first. If something has gone wrong, email hello@technical-humanist.com and describe it. Most things get resolved this way, and I would rather fix a problem than argue about it. Please give me 30 days to work it out with you before starting a formal proceeding.
If that does not work: arbitration. A dispute that cannot be resolved informally is settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its applicable rules, before a single arbitrator agreed by both of us. Any hearing takes place in Fulton County, Georgia, or by video if we both prefer. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
By agreeing to arbitration, both of us give up the right to have the dispute decided by a jury.
Small claims are carved out. Either of us may instead bring a qualifying claim in a small claims or magistrate court — including for unpaid fees — and nothing in this section prevents that. Either of us may also seek an injunction from a court to protect intellectual property or confidential information.
Governing law and venue
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of this site, are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
For any matter that goes to court rather than arbitration, you agree to the jurisdiction and venue of the state courts located in Fulton County, Georgia, or the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division. You agree that process may be served on you in any manner Georgia law allows.
Signed agreements come first
If you have signed an agreement with me — a master services agreement, a statement of work, an order form, or anything similar — that agreement controls. Where it says something different from this page, it wins, for everything within its scope.
These terms govern your use of this website, and they fill any gap a signed agreement leaves open. They do not replace, narrow, or override what you and I have signed.
Changes, and ending your use
I may update these terms as the practice, the site, or the law changes. When I do, I will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after that means the updated terms apply to you. Changes are not retroactive and do not alter a dispute that already exists.
I may restrict or end your access to this site if you breach these terms. If any part of this page turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of it still stands.
